Saturday's Ryman South action review

By David Watters

Folkestone Invicta increased their advantage at the top of the Ryman South table to six points on Saturday, writes Pitchero's Steve Whitney.

Neil Cugley`s side inflicted a 5-2 drubbing on Guernsey in the day's early kick-off to allow the Channel Islanders time to catch transport home, while second-placed Molesey`s game was off and third-placed Worthing were held to a goalless draw at seventh-placed Faversham Town.

It didn`t start well for Invicta in front of 361 at The Fullicks Stadium, however, as a Frankie Chappell own goal gave the Islanders a 14th minute lead.

Jon Pilbeam equalised right on the stroke of half-time and almost immediately after the restart Scott Heard put the hosts in front. Ashley Miller added a third six minutes later and Ian Draycott bagged a brace in the 59th and 61st minutes to make it 5-1, with Ross Allen replying 10 minutes from time.

Corinthian-Casuals moved level on points with Worthing in fourth after a goal from Juevan Spencer on the half-hour mark was eventually enough to see off Hythe Town at the King George`s Field.

South Park, whose game was also off, remain fifth because sixth-placed Ramsgate were beaten by the odd goal in five at Walton & Hersham.

Ian Pulman gave the Rams a great start with a goal inside eight minutes but Kadeem Ajeon levelled on the half-hour mark. Nick Treadwell restored the visitors` lead on the hour but six minutes later Harry Mills equalised from the spot.

Ajeon then grabbed his second of the game to give the Swans the lead for the first time on 77 minutes, and they held firm, despite a late dismissal for John Oyenuga.

Carshalton Athletic are now just a point off the top five after beating second-bottom Whitstable Town 2-1 at Colston Avenue.

Tommy Bradford gave the Robins the lead three minutes before half-time. And then just shy of the hour-mark Dan Summers doubled the home side`s advantage. Mitchell Dickenson pulled one back for the Oystermen seven minutes from time, but they weren`t able to find a leveller.

Only three points separate thirteenth-placed Three Bridges and South Park in fifth, with Whyteleafe and Hastings United in that pack and both won on Saturday.

The `Leafe were 3-1 victors` at Peacehaven & Telscombe, thanks to goals from Jahmahl King three minutes after half-time, Tason Henry on 57 minutes and Sam Clayton four minutes later – Conor Ford replying two minutes from time.

Hastings were 1-0 winners at the Pilot Field against Chatham Town, courtesy of a 25th minute Sam Crutwell effort – Chats ending the game with ten-men following a straight red card for left-back Joe Loft nine minutes from time.

Herne Bay are just outside that group but are not far behind after recording a comfortable 4-1 Winch`s Field win over Chipstead.

Sam Hasler gave Bay a great start with a goal inside the opening minute. He doubled that 25 minutes later, only for Joel Aitkin to pull one back for Chips two minutes later. But goals from Connor Sanders and Joe Nelder in the final 15 minutes sealed Bay`s victory.

Saturday`s other game saw Tooting & Mitcham United move above hosts Walton Casuals into sixteenth place after a best-of-five win at the Waterside Stadium.

The Terrors led 2-0 at the break with goals from Serge Makofo on the half-hour mark and Gareth Chendlik seven minutes later. Jack Sammoutis reduced the arrears five minutes after the break, only for Chendlik to make it 3-1 on the hour-mark. Sammoutis pulled a second back for Casuals, but it came with only a few seconds left to play.
