South Central (and North) Saturday

By Ian Townsend

Away from the Cup, we've two matches in Pitching In Isthmian South Central- and one in the North Division

The majority of our sides are in Emirates FA Cup action today, but a few of those who are no longer in the competition have decided to use their blank Saturday to get on with the day job!

In the Pitching In Isthmian South Central, Chertsey Town have the chance to climb to second place as they welcome Southall. The Curfews are unbeaten in their four matches so far, having recorded two hefty wins and two draws. Those hefty wins came against South Park and Sutton Common Rovers, so the arrival of another S, Southall, might be a good omen- but the visitors will have other plans. Our new boys have defeated Merstham and Guernsey so far this season, whilst losing to leaders Northwoood and to Uxbridge. A win for the visitors could lift them as high as third.

An aberration against Chertsey aside, Sutton Common Rovers have made a bright start to their second Pitching In Isthmian season, with wins over Marlow and Chipstead. They welcome those Green Lions of Guernsey, who make the long trip from the Channel Islands and then the short trip from Gatwick Airport (although given the traffic recently the coach trip could take longer than the flight!). Guernsey haven't had the best of starts, and so far have taken only one point from their three matches, and failed to find the net on any occasion. They'll hope that Ross Allen finds his usually-reliable shooting boots and begins to put that right.

Last season saw the Green Lions win both matches between the sides, Allen scoring three of the five Guernsey goals.

Two sides who are still searching for their first win, Great Wakering Rovers and Hullbridge Sports, meet in Pitching In Isthmian North. Rovers have taken one point from three matches so far, in a draw at Wroxham which saw them relinquish a three goal lead- whilst Sports three matches have seen three defeats. Last season saw four points go the way of Rovers, who won the home match between the two by one goal to nil- Ashley Nzala with it.

All matches kick off at 3PM.
