South Central and Trophy Saturday

By Ian Townsend

Our unbeaten leaders are in League action, whilst eight of our South Central sides play in the FA Trophy. Here's our preview.

Leaders Northwood could be five points clear by Saturday evening, as they welcome Sutton Common Rovers. The Woods have a one hundred percent record and fifteen beautiful points- in comparison it took them until mid January to amass that many last season. Rovers have lost their last three in all competitions, but their last win did come against third place Marlow, so the Woods shouldn’t get complacent.

FA Trophy

Hanworth Villa play host to Littlehampton Town. The Villains have been rather difficult to beat, losing just one league match this season- and have scored nine goals in their last three matches. The Golds started the season well, but have been less convincing in their last two matches, losing to Haywards Heath Town and drawing with Chichester City. They were knocked out of the FA Cup by another Pitching In Isthmian South Central side, Walton & Hersham.

Harlow Town, these days of Pitching In Southern Division One, welcome Ashford Town (Middx). The Tangerines saw a good run come to an end with a walloping against Basingstoke Town last weekend, and then fell to another thumping against Marlow in midweek, so will want to bounce back. The Hawks aren’t having a particularly good league campaign but have already removed two Isthmian sides from cup competitions this season, Brentwood Town and Great Wakering Rovers.

Heybridge Swifts finally lost a match in midweek- their first defeat of the season- but it did come against National League South side Braintree Town, and it was close. They welcome Pitching In Isthmian South Central Chipstead, the Chips seeing their three match unbeaten run come to an end against Marlow last weekend.

Thatcham Town are still looking for a first league win, and indeed have only one victory this season, against Cinderford Town in the last round of the Trophy. They welcome AFC Dunstable, unbeaten in Pitching In Southern League Division One Central.

Uxbridge host Bedfont Sports in another all South-Central tie. Sports picked up their first win of the season in midweek, defeating Sutton Common Rovers, whilst Uxbridge have lost only twice this season, the most recent of those coming last weekend at National League South side Eastbourne Borough.

Walton & Hersham, magnificent in all competitions so far this season but especially in the FA Cup, welcome another South Central side, Southall. The Swans are nine matches unbeaten, whilst Hall are also difficult to beat, having drawn three of their last four- and only won the other one on penalties!
