Maidstone United's teenage defender Aaron Simpson has completed a dream move to Wolverhampton Wanderers.

The 18-year-old right-back signed a two-year deal with the Black Country outfit this week after a successful trial with the Championship side.

Simpson joined the Ryman Premier leaders from Ryman South Whitstable Town in the summer and had been attracting the attention of scouts from a number of Football League clubs after helping the Kent club to reach the second round of the FA Cup as well as keeping their title assault on track.

Simpson could have moved on to Molineux last week but had been away with England schoolboys after his form also earned him an international call.

After signing on the dotted line, pictured, Simpson told MaidstoneandMedwayNews.co.uk on Friday: "I still don’t feel like it’s sunk in yet. I went up there on Sunday night, trained on Monday and Tuesday, had Wednesday off, then trained on Thursday and then had an in-house match with the U18s and U21s on Friday.

"It went really well, I really enjoyed my time there and on that Friday before I came back home they pulled me into the office and told me I had done well and that they wanted to sign me.

"When I got told there was this massive smile that came across my face and I couldn’t wipe it off. It all happened so quickly. When I started out playing football it was my dream to become a professional footballer and putting pen to paper was the icing on the cake."

"I have had a really great year and I’ve got to thank Maidstone for that and Soccer Elite and all the teams I’ve played for for helping me get here.”

Stones manager Jay Saunders said: "Aaron came in last night to tell the boys and I wish him all the best, I'm really pleased for him.

"There's nothing better than seeing young lads getting picked up and it just shows the quality we have got in Kent. There's good local talent in the county.

"Who knows what he can achieve? He still needs a bit of work, but better facilities and training every day will help that."
