Stones triumph on home turf to lift league cup

The Robert Dyas League Cup Final

Maidstone United beat AFC Sudbury 3-0 in front of their own fans at the Gallagher Stadium in Kent on Tuesday night to lift the Robert Dyas League Cup.

Michael Phillips headed home on 38 minutes to give Maidstone United a well-deserved lead at the break. Stones manager Jay Saunders and his Ryman Premier side didn't have it all their own way though in the second consecutive Isthmian League Challenge Cup Final to be played on the 3G artificial turf after the win for Concord Rangers there last season.

Ryman North Sudbury were still in the game until seven minutes from time when Zac Attwood was brought down in the box and Frannie Collin dispatched the penalty to leave them with a mountain to climb.

With his side now chasing the game, manager David Batch saw them beaten again in time added on when Collin broke free to round the keeper and slot home United's third in front of a crowd of 1829.
