Sunday's Ryman South action review

By David Watters

The three matches scheduled in Ryman South on Christmas Sunday which beat the weather produced a healthy 16 goals between them, writes Pitchero's Steve Whitney.

However, it wasn`t good news for leaders Folkestone Invicta, who suffered a 2-1 defeat at Reachfields against mid-table neighbours Hythe Town.

Invicta`s first defeat since November 14th came in front of a terrific crowd of 1,527 who saw Ian Draycott give Invicta a 23rd minute lead from the penalty spot.

However, Frankie Sawyer levelled 20 minutes into the second half after a run and shot and Invicta's task grew harder when Josh Vincent was sent-off for a second bookable offence with 13 minutes remaining. Hythe piled on the pressure in the latter stages and five minutes from time Alfie May grabbed the winner.

Second-placed Worthing had no such problem in beating third-bottom Peacehaven & Telscombe at Woodside Road.

Lloyd Dawes headed Worthing in front after 18 minutes before Matt Axell curled in a delightful free-kick on 33 minutes to give the Rebels a 2-0 lead at half-time.

A rout was on the cards after Omar Bugiel on 48 minutes and Zack Newton three minutes added further strikes. Dawes netted his second midway through the second half but was denied his hat-trick as he struck the crossbar, while Harvey Sparks also struck the woodwork from 30 yards.

Guernsey AFC moved into third place after coming back from behind to share a 4-4 draw in a thriller at South Park.

Kieran Lavery gave the hosts a 16th minute lead that Angus Mackay cancelled out with a screamer four minutes later. But Asa Rixon-Nicholls and Joe Jackson had South Park 3-1 up by the 31st minute. Ross Allen reduced the arrears nine minutes into the second half and four minutes later he netted his second from the spot to pull the Channel Islanders back on level terms.

Allen then completed his hat-trick on 69 minutes to put the visitors ahead for the first time, only for Lavery to score his second to make it 4-4 in the 74th minute.
