Tangerines lose their leader

Paul McCarthy steps down at Ashford Town

Ashford Town have announced the departure of manager Paul McCarthy, who departs by mutual consent after discussions with the board.

Tangerines chair Nick Bailey explains:

'This has been a really hard situation as Macca is not just the manager, but also a very close friend. Over the years he has given everything to our club. First as a player, and now as manager. Having discussions with him on where we were looking to go as well as asking him what he wanted going forward was tough. We were all very open and honest which certainly brought about the best conclusion for everyone. I know that Macca has choices ahead of him for the future, and lots of options. Whether that sees him stay with us in another capacity, or move elsewhere, he will always be a part of Ashford Town, and has our full support. As I am sure he has our back as well.'

Paul stepped up from Assistant Manager in March last year, following the departure of Dean Greenwood. He had previously played in goal for the club, and had also served between the sticks for Bracknell Town and Uxbridge.
