The beast of Faversham!

Adebayo Akinfenwa comes out of retirement to make a Faversham Town debut

Faversham Town had a surprising but instantly recognisable figure up front as they fell to defeat at Lancing on Saturday, after the signing of Adebayo Akinfenwa was confirmed.

Adebayo, who played in a pre-season friendly for Pitching In Isthmian North leaders Hashtag United in the summer, retired from the professional game last season, waving goodbye to one of our former clubs, Wycombe Wanderers, after a professional career which lasted more than twenty years.

He also spent time with the likes of AFC Wimbledon, Gillingham, Northampton Town, Millwall, Swansea City and Torquay United.

He played alongside Faversham boss Sammy Moore at Wimbledon, and worked with Lilywhites coach Darren Hare at the Gills.

After the match, and despite defeat, he delayed his departure to sign autographs and smile for selfies with young supporters- image courtesy of Paul Smith.
