The FA Cup visits Marlow- tomorrow

By Ian Townsend

Marlow are the only club to have entered the FA Cup every year since its inception- head along and see the famous old trophy

On November 11th 1871, Marlow started their FA Cup adventure at Maidenhead. The fell at the first hurdle, losing two-nil, but undaunted have become the only club in history to enter the competition every single year. Because of that the FA have honoured them by 'lending' them the trophy for two hours tomorrow afternoon, so that supporters can come in and have their photograph taken with it and pretend that they are Kasper Schmeichel, the last captain to hold it.

The FA Cup has brought some glory to the club over the years. Nobody on the planet will remember in person their run to the Semi-Finals in 1881-82, after victories over St Bart's Hospital, Dreadnought, Old Foresters and a club nobody will have heard of, Reading, took them to the brink of immortality before Wanderers got in the way. Many will, however, recall their success in 1991-92, when they reached the First Round until West Bromwich Albion pressed the delete button, the following year when they reached the Third Round before falling to Tottenham Hotspur at White Hart Lane, or 1994-95, when they again got to the Third Round before losing to Swindon Town. The FA will be filming their tie against Slimbridge on Saturday in the Preliminary Round, and we'll bring those highlights to you here soon courtesy of the FA Cup Channel.

The Cup will be available to drool over (please step well back if you're going to do that) at the club on Wednesday 18th August between 5.30 PM and 8PM.
