Trophy hunters head awards list!

By David Watters

Dulwich Hamlet, Maldon & Tiptree and East Grinstead Town are the Ryman League's February performance kings!

After being named at the weekend before kicking off in the Ryman Premier, Ryman North and Ryman South respectively, the trio are all looking forward to being presented with glass trophies as the latest Macron Team Performance of the Month winners in their divisions at upcoming fixtures by the sponsors and representatives of the Ryman League.

As always, the monthly awards are being sponsored once again this season by Macron to recognise and reward the top performances among the 72 clubs playing in the Ryman League, the competition's judges making their choices from a shortlist of potential clashes and basing their vote on the circumstances behind the performances and their significance.

Not many would argue with Gavin Rose and his Dulwich Hamlet side being honoured for their record-breaking run in the Buildbase FA Trophy to book a berth in the quarter-finals for only the second time in their history, the south Londoners collecting the top flight's laurels for their stunning 5-2 victory over National League Braintree Town at Champion Hill in a last 16 replay on Tuesday 7 March.

Hamlet, who beat Worthing 1-0 on the south coast on Saturday, can put down an early marker for March's accolade on Tuesday night when Rose's side travel to Macclesfield Town in their postponed last eight replay with their sights set on setting up a semi-final trip to Tranmere Rovers.

Macron's performance laurels in Ryman North and Ryman South were both won for league performances by the Jammers and Wasps on the same day, Saturday 11 February.

Under the guidance of manager Kevin Horlock, Maldon & Tiptree ended the weekend just three points off the top of the Ryman North table and six ahead of third-placed Thurrock in the race for the title after a 1-0 win at leaders Brightlingsea Regent on Saturday.

The Jammers were named as their division's performance kings for their 4-0 victory over Essex rivals Thurrock at the club's Wallace Binder Ground, the result laying the foundations for their promotion push after inspiring Horlock's side to successive victories before their big win at the weekend.

Former East Grinstead Town manager Matt Longhurst masterminded the club's Macron success in Ryman South before leaving East Court at the end of last week to become number two to Darren Hare at Hastings United. He can take extra pride in his achievements as number one for the award-winning 7-3 thumping his side handed out to Walton Casuals at Church Road.
