Trophy Tuesday- A South East preview

By Ian Townsend

The First Qualifying Round of the FA Trophy kicks off tonight. Here's what happening for our Pitching In Isthmian South East clubs.

Ashford United welcome Pitching Isthmian North leaders AFC Sudbury to Homelands. United haven’t yet hit the heights but have still lost only once this season, whilst the Yellows have been magnificent- not only unbeaten but with striker Nnamdi Nwachuku in sparkling form, with eight goals already.

Barton Rovers play host to Chatham Town. The Chats are in superb form, and have five consecutive wins coming into this match, a run which has seen them score fifteen goals and concede only three. Rovers don’t yet have a league win in Pitching In Southern Division One Central; indeed their only win this season came in an FA Cup replay against Arlesey Town.

Beckenham Town play host to Heybridge Swifts- two sides who have had super starts to the campaign. The Pitching In Isthmian South East leaders have seven wins and a draw from eight matches, that draw coming in an FA Cup tie against East Grinstead Town, where they triumphed in the replay. Becks have won every home match, but Swifts should prove difficult opponents, also unbeaten and having won their last three matches on the road. They travel with five consecutive wins under their belts.

Chichester City are the hosts to fellow Pitching In Isthmian South East side Faversham Town. City are unbeaten at home and knocked Leatherhead out of the Cup last time out; whilst the Lilywhites haven’t played since August 29th- but did win that one, against Ashford United.

Felixstowe & Walton United have offered travelling Burgess Hill Town fans a complimentary meal voucher upon arrival, as recognition of their mammoth midweek trek. It’s a lovely gesture from the Seasiders, but we suspect they won’t be so generous on the pitch! Still unbeaten in Pitching In Isthmian North, they will be favourites- however the Hillians may not yet have any league points but they did knock Premier Division Corinthian-Casuals out of the cup last time out.

Hadley, bottom of Pitching In Southern Division One Central, play host to Sevenoaks Town. Oaks have lost two of their last three- but the victory in between those two defeats was a notable one, as they knocked Kingstonian out of the FA Cup.

Haywards Heath Town have had a damp squib start to the season, and are still searching for a first victory, having lost four of their five matches so far. Southall are the visitors, the Pitching In Isthmian South Central side having looked very good on occasions this season- particularly in wins over Merstham and Guernsey.

Lancing welcome Pitching In Isthmian South East rivals Cray Valley PM to Culver Road. The Millers knocked Premier Division side Hastings United out of the Cup last time out, and travel on the back of a five match unbeaten run. The hosts have had their moments, too- and defeated Chichester City last time out.

Littlehampton Town welcome Ramsgate in another all South East tie. The Rams sit in third, the Golds in fifth, so both sides will be pleased with their starts to the season. Ramsgate are unbeaten in the league, whilst the Golds have kept two clean sheets in their last two matches.

Sheppey United, still looking for their first league win, will hope to bounce back from their eight-nil hammering at Lewes in the Cup as they welcome Hertford Town. The visitors have been very good in front of goal this season- sixteen goals from six matches- but have also conceded twelve. Perhaps this one has a nil-nil draw written all over it!

Three Bridges have Pitching In Isthmian North visitors heading their way, Hullbridge Sports travelling to Crawley. Bridges have won four of their last five matches in all competitions, whilst Sports have lost each one of their five matches so far.

Tilbury play host to Whitehawk. The Dockers are unbeaten in Pitching In Isthmian North, whilst the Hawks have also had a good start to their League campaign, with three wins and a draw from their four matches.

Tooting & Mitcham United welcome Corinthian to Imperial Fields. The Terrors picked up their first win of their league campaign last time out- but last time out was 29th August, so they will be champing at the bit to get back out there. The travelling Hoops haven’t yet managed a win this season, but they did come very close to creating an upset against Met Police in the cup.

VCD Athletic welcome Grays Athletic. Vickers have gone three matches without a win and were walloped by Carshalton Athletic in the cup last time out; whilst the other Athletic have only one defeat from their seven matches so far this season.

Wroxham play host to East Grinstead Town, who have had an incredibly long journey to the Norfolk Broads. Wroxham are still searching for their first win of the season, whilst the Wasps have had a solid start to the season, with only two defeats- the last of them coming in a cup replay last Tuesday night.
