Tuesday's Ryman North action review

Ryman League North Division

VCD Athletic moved an impressive eleven points clear at the top of the Ryman League Division One North table on Tuesday night, writes Pitchero's Steve Whitney.

The Vickers won 2-0 at Cheshunt, courtesy of goals from Nick Reeves from the penalty spot just before half-time and Ben Payne in the 58th minute.

Witham Town's chances of reducing that gap at the top was fogged-off at fourth-placed Maldon & Tiptree. That allowed Needham Market to move into third spot after edging out neighbours Dereham Town by the odd goal in five at Bloomfields.

However, the hosts had to come back from being two-down to win after Luke Tuttle on 29 minutes, and Danny Beaumont from the spot five minutes before the break, put the Deres in command. Jamie Guy's spot-kick nine minutes after half-time and then Sam Newson on 68 minutes brought Market level, with Sheridan Driver popping up with the winner in the 71st minute.

Waltham Abbey could have moved into the top five with victory at Capershotts against Redbridge. But instead the Motormen came away with an impressive 4-1 win, the goals coming with braces from Emiel Aiken and Daniel Charge – Jasper Owen replying.

Harlow Town are seventh after Alex Read's goal with just two minutes remaining proved to be enough at Barrows Farm against Romford.

Wroxham ended their long run without a win in emphatic style as Stephen Drake scored four goals in a 6-2 away win at Soham Town Rangers.

Luke Stanley opened the scoring in the final minute of a rather docile first half, before the pace of Wroxham’s attack pierced through Soham as the second half went into overdrive. Drake scored two goals in three minutes to give his side a 2-1 lead, before four goals in four minutes from Drake, with two, Joe Marsden and a Ben Sawyer consolation for the home side made it 5-2. Sam Harty then converted an 85th minute penalty to cement the win, and give Wroxham their first victory in the league in eight games.

A brace from leading goalscorer Danny Francis saw Tilbury to another three points at home to Erith & Belvedere. Francis' goals came in the 16th minute and then in stoppage time at the end of the game.

Thurrock came from behind to win 2-1 in the local derby with Aveley, thanks to goals from Lewis Perkins on 75 minutes and Charlie Stimson two minutes later – all after Ross Wall had given the Millers a 48th minute lead.

Ware condemned Waltham Forest to bottom spot with a second win in a week, courtesy of Anthony Anstead's 29th minute effort at Wodson Park.

AFC Sudbury saw off Burnham Ramblers comfortably 3-0 at home, with Ryan Henshaw opening the scoring after 10 minutes and Sam Clarke doubling that 11 minutes later. Stephen Spriggs made the points safe with a third third minutes into the second half.

The only draw of the evening came at Chatham Town, where the home side threw away a 2-0 lead given to them by Kieran McCann after 14 minutes and Alfie May on 28 minutes against Brentwood Town. The visitors earned a point with a crucial goal from Daniel Subuola right on half-time and then Dane Harriott just past the hour-mark.
