Tuesday's Ryman Premier action review

Maidstone United were looking to reduce the gap on Ryman Premier leaders Margate when they travelled to East Thurrock United on Tuesday night, writes Pitchero's Steve Whitney.

But the Stones, who still have three games in hand on Gate, could only narrow that margin by one point to three after being held to a 1-1 draw at Rookery Hill against play-off chasing Rocks.

Winger Ben Greenhalgh gave the visitors the boost of a 17th minute lead but they were unable to hang on and top scorer Sam Higgins pounced to equalise in the 67th minute.

It was Maidstone`s fourth successive draw but both Metropolitan Police and Leiston improved their play-off hopes with wins against teams on the edge of the relegation battle.

The Met beat Witham Town 3-1 at Imber Court where two goals in a minute shortly before half-time from Ryan James put Jim Cooper`s side in command.

Charlie Collins added a third from the penalty spot on 57 minutes, with the Essex visitors netting a consolation eight minutes from time through L`Heureux Menga.

Leiston are three points behind the fifth-placed Met after shoving Lewes closer to trouble following a comfortable 3-0 win at, appropriately, Victory Road.

Gareth Heath put the Suffolk hosts in front after 10 minutes and 11 minutes later Darren Mills doubled their advantage. Craig Parker made sure the points stayed at home with a third for Leiston on 68 minutes.

Tonbridge Angels suffered a disappointing 2-1 home reverse by Peacehaven & Telscombe at the Longmead Stadium.

Lee Carey gave the Angels a 15th minute lead from the penalty spot, only for Tom Burton to equalise four minutes later. And it was Burton who scored what proved to be Haven`s winner in the 31st minute to leave Angels looking over their shoulders at the wrong end of the table.
