Tuesday's Ryman Premier action review

By David Watters

Hampton & Richmond Borough are beginning to look dangerous opponents for the current top five in the Ryman League Premier Division, writes Pitchero's Steve Whitney.

And Tuesday night`s 6-1 demolition of Merstham at the Moatside Stadium only increased that and sent the Beavers to sixth in the table.

Brendan Kiernan gave the visitors an early boost of a second minute lead that Tom Jelley doubled after 14 minutes. Nicke Kabamba added a third on 38 minutes and six minutes after half-time it was 4-0 through Moussa Diarra, who made it a nap hand on 71 minutes.

Fabio Saraiva scored a consolation for the Moatsiders five minutes later, but the Beavers had the last word through Dean Sinclair in injury-time.

Second-placed Dulwich Hamlet suffered a 2-1 Champion Hill defeat to Metropolitan Police.

It started well enough for Hamlet when recent signing Dan Sweeney put them in front after 35 minutes. But right on half-time Billy Crook pulled the Met back on level terms. And Jim Cooper`s side won it with less than four minutes remaining through Joe Turner.

Bognor Regis Town are now third after a comfortable 4-1 Nyewood Lane victory over third-bottom Farnborough.

Alfie Rutherford put the Rocks in front after 10 minutes and Snorre Nilsen doubled that 18 minutes later. Just past the hour-mark Rutherford netted his second, and although Harry Williams reduced the arrears a few minutes later, sub Alex Parsons made it 4-1 with 8 minutes to go.

Canvey Island are level on points with Bognor in fourth after a 2-1 win at the Prospects Stadium against Wingate & Finchley.

Martin Tuohy proved the Gulls` hero on the night, bagging a brace in the 27th and 70th minutes, rendering Ahmet Rifat`s late reply as nothing more than a consolation.

Tuesday`s other game saw bottom-markers VCD Athletic pick up only their fifth point of the season to date in a battling 1-1 draw at New Lodge against Billericay Town.

And it looked as though the Vickers were going to break their duck as they led through Donovan Simmonds` 51st minute opener right until eight minutes from time when Mike Fondop Talom popped up with the Blues` face-saver.
