Tuesday's Ryman Premier action review

By David Watters

Enfield Town gave their Ryman Premier play-off hopes a massive boost on Tuesday night with a comprehensive 4-0 win at the Queen Elizabeth II Stadium over fellow contenders Kingstonian, writes Pitchero's Steve Whitney.

Corey Whitely proved to be Town`s hero with a hat-trick, bagging a brace in the 17th and 38th minute and then, after Bobby Devyne had added a third just before half-time, completing his hat-trick a minute into the second period.

The win lifts Town to within four points of the top five places, while K`s remain two points behind Bognor Regis Town in fifth.

The Rocks overcame their disappointment of bowing out of the FA Trophy at the semi-final stage last Saturday by winning 2-1 at Earlsmead – a result that means the home side will be nervously looking over their shoulders at the drop zone over Easter.

James Crane gave the Rocks the boost of an early fourth minute lead but Boro responded immediately by levelling through a Marc Charles-Smith penalty. Craig Robson restored the visitors` lead right on the stroke of half-time and they held that lead to earn three big points.

Bognor possess a massive six games in hand on the top three and despite having a lot of ground to make up, could yet take the title.

Brentwood Town`s hopes of staying in the division took a blow when they were beaten 1-0 at The Arena by Wingat & Finchley.

The only goal of the game came four minutes before the break from Leon Fisher to leave Town eight points behind fifth-bottom Needham Market, although they do have games in hand on all around them.

Tuesday night`s other game saw Merstham move to within two points of visiting Metropolitan Police in mid-table, Kristian Campbell scoring the only goal of the game after 36 minutes at the Moatside Stadium.
