Two more years for Elphick

Boss Gary to lead United's tilt at the Pitching In Isthmian Premier

Prior to Saturday's final day defeat to Sevenoaks Town, Hastings United confirmed that player/manager Gary Elphick would remain with the club for the next two years.

Gary took the reins in early November after Chris Agutter's surprise departure, and led the side to an impressive title win and promotion- a promotion that, without the pandemic, might have occurred two years earlier. After taking the managers role he seemingly gave up playing, as he had made thirteen appearances before taking the role and managed only one afterwards.

Gary joined the club as a player back in March 2019, after leaving Burgess Hill Town. He has made sixty six club appearances in total if our maths are correct.

His time as manager at Worthing came to an end in September 2017; he became sole manager after Jon Meeney-these days his first team coach at Pilot Field- moved on the previous April. His departure came at a time when the Mackerel Men were temporarily sharing with local rivals Bognor Regis Town due to pitch problems at Woodside Road.

He previously played for the likes of Brighton & Hove Albion, St Albans City, Eastbourne Borough and Tonbridge Angels.
