Gulls manager Danny Heale said: "I'm delighted that John has agreed to join the club, and in my opinion we now have the best striker in the league which will be a massive boost for us.

"I'd like to thank Chairman George Frost and Director of Football John Batch for their hard work in bring John to the club, and I'd also like to thank Bury Town for their co-operation."

Sands will not be eligible for Canvey's FA Cup tie at Biggleswade Town on Saturday or in the FA Trophy after playing in both competitions for the Blues.
