Urchins go six clear with win at Cray

By Ian Townsend

Two goals in each half as Hornchurch hit Wands for four

Hornchurch had the opportunity to go six points clear at Cray Wanderers yesterday, and it was an opportunity they took with style in front of three hundred and twenty four at Hayes Lane.

Liam Nash has been in superb form this season. He took his goal tally for the season into double figures during the four-one win over Hastings United last Tuesday night, and within little more than half an hour he'd broken through the Wands defence twice to take his tally to twelve. Nash converted a cross from George Saunders on twenty three minutes, and nine minutes later it was Nathan Green's cross which the Urchins number ten was waiting to convert.

Wands got themselves back into the match with twenty five minutes left, a Nyren Clunis free kick evening everyone to find the net, but any chance of a comeback ended when Wands keeper Shaun Rowley was adjudged to have fouled Ade Yusuff. Tom Wraight made no mistake from the spot.

Three minutes later an Urchins free kick was taken by Ollie Muldoon. The wall jumped, the shot went underneath, and the ball entered the net- four-one, game most definitely over.

A new signing for the Urchins, Femi Akinwande, entered the fray at half time.

Chatham Town, in second place, will hope to cut the lead at the top to three points as they travel to Margate tomorrow night. The Urchins are back in action as they host Bognor Regis Town on Saturday, whilst Wands will be heading to Potters Bar Town.
