Velasquez and Mengi at the Bees

Junior Velasquez and Arnold Mengi new at Basildon United

Basildon United gave a debut to defender Junior Velasquez in Saturday's defeat at Wroxham, after he made the move from Pitching In Isthmian Premier promotion chasers Billericay Town.

Billericay signed Junior in the summer, the player making the step up from Brentwood Town.

Junior previously played for Woodford Town before making the step up to Sutton United, where he played for the reserve side. If Transfer Markt is correct, he somehow ended up leaving United for Venezuela, playing for Caracas, and then had time in Portugal with Farense in the Algarve before returning to our shores and becoming a Brentwood blue.

He spent time in the successful Under 21 side before stepping up to the first team squad, and played eight times during the last six weeks of last season. His time with Billericay has seen him play six times.

The Bees also brought in midfielder Arnold Mengi from Witham Town, but not in time to be involved in Saturday's match. Arnold has been an important part of the Witham midfield for three seasons, already playing twenty one times this season- including in a five-one defeat against the Bees that his new team mates may like to remind him of- and nineteen times last season, after making a debut as Town fought for survival at the end of the 21-22 campaign, three matches which saw him go unbeaten as they finally retained their North Division place via a relegation play off. He was previously with Tower Hamlets of the SCEFL.
