Vita Risk Solutions: Manager of the Month Award, April 2023

By Ian Townsend

In conjunction with our friends at Vita Risk, we honour the best managers of the last month of the Isthmian season

Premier Division

We’re off to Bishop’s Stortford once more, and this time to honour Blues boss Steve Smith. As well as watching his side take the title, April saw Steve’s charges defeat every opponents put in front of them, score fifteen goals, keep four clean sheets and concede only once. For all that many of our clubs put in good end of the season runs, none of them came anywhere near that- indeed, had it not been for Michael Bakare's consolation for Enfield Town in a four-one defeat it would have been a month without blemish. Many congratulations to Steve, and to all at the club.

North Division

Jay Devereux has so many of these trophies this season we suspect he will have one for every room in the house, so perhaps this one might go in the bathroom! Hashtag United finished the campaign as they finished most months of late, unbeaten. The Tags defeated Coggeshall Town, Gorleston, put four past Witham Town, six past Great Wakering Rovers, and ended the season with a goalless draw at Basildon United- a series of results which saw them confirmed as champions and finish the campaign seven clear of their closest rivals with ninety eight points. Many congrats to Jay, who at this rate will need shares in a glass cleaning company.

South Central Division

He’s a hero to the Villains, and there is no doubt why, as Simon Haughney takes our final Manager of the Month prize for the 22-23 season. Simon’s Hanworth Villa have had a magnificent first Pitching In Isthmian campaign, and the final month of the regular season saw them defeat Southall, Northwood, Bedfont Sports, Guernsey and Chipstead. That form saw the Villains take fourth place, and, of course, reach the Play Off Final, where they were magnificent in the first forty five minutes against Walton & Hersham.

Many congratulations to Simon, and to all his squad, on a magnificent season. We expect to see you amongst the title contenders in the next campaign.

South East Division

It’s safe to say that very few people outside Reachfields saw Hythe Town as promotion contenders when the season kicked off, but goodness, how Steve Watt and his side laughed at those predictions. With their foundations built on a magnificent defence- the best in the Division- they swept their way to the Play Off Final- and April was particularly superb. East Grinstead Town, Burgess Hill Town and Haywards Heath Town were thrashed, VCD Athletic and Faversham Town also ended matches against the Cannons with nothing, and our Vita Risk Manager of the Month prize is heading- deservedly- to the Kent coast. Many congratulations to Steve and his side.
