Wands march on- Wolves and Ware have it all to do again after a six goal thriller

By Ian Townsend

We had two FA Cup matches yesterday. Here's the news you need.

Last season Cray Wanderers did the double over Hythe Town in the Isthmian South East Division, so the now BetVictor Isthmian Premier side went into yesterday's FA Cup Preliminary Round match between the two as firm favourites for a number of reasons. It was unlikely, however, that anyone expected the massacre that occurred at Hayes Lane, as the Wands walloped the Cannons by five goals to nil.

Tom Murphy got the first two Cray goals, and the home fans were able to relax as Joseph Taylor made it three- and surely secured victory- just before the break. After the interval Bradley Pritchard added another, and just when Hythe must have hoped the torment had ended Taylor got yet another just before the end.

Over in Cheshunt FC Romania thrice forced their way ahead of visitors Ware, and thrice found themselves pegged back in another thrilling match. Adrian Hurdubei scored the only goal of a first half that didn't promise the drama that the crowd received after the break. Louis Rose equalised for Ware after fifty nine minutes, only for Hurdubei to restore the Wolves lead one minute later. Ware once more struck back, and Oluwaseun Akinsanya levelled the match with twelve minutes remaining. Were we done? We certainly weren't!

With one minute to go Lawrence Neuruba surely thought he'd won the game for FC Romania- but he hadn't, as there was still time for Tom Boxer to ensure that his side weren't knocked out. The replay will be on Tuesday September 3rd.

We've an almost full set of Bank Holiday Monday fixtures today, including a number of local derbies. Head here to find out more.
