We bid a sad farewell to the Seed Growers and Rovers

By Ian Townsend

Two North Division relegation play offs, and two defeats, as Coggeshall Town and Great Wakering Rovers depart

Coggeshall Town welcomed a set of rather unfamiliar opponents in their quest to stay up, as Winterton Rangers headed to Essex. Winterton are from North Lincolnshire- near Scunthorpe- and finished in second place in the Northern Counties East Premier Division, fourteen points behind runaway champions North Ferriby- and now they’ll be in Step Four for the first time in their history after a two-one win in Essex.

All the goals came late in the day. Josh Walker opened the scoring for the visitors with eleven minutes to go, and two minutes later added another. The Seed Growers rallied, Darnell Kithambo getting a goal back in the last minute from the spot, but it was too little, too late and defeat was soon confirmed.

There was far less drama as Great Wakering Rovers welcomed Quorn in the other play off. The visitors travelled down from Leicestershire, and swept all before them, charging into a four-nil lead at the break and adding a fifth after it. Rovers had no answer to that, and depart with something of a whimper. Paddy Webb (2), Thabang Dube (2) and Jordan Clarke were the scorers.

Commiserations to both sides, and we hope you’ll be back with us soon.
