Wednesday Night football!

By Ian Townsend

We've the small matter of a Cup Final, and a match in the South Central Division. Here's our preview.

It's Velocity Trophy Final time, and we're off to Parkside, as Horsham and Margate compete for what would normally be our first silverware of the season- if of course we didn't already have three confirmed champions!

The Hornets have had a fine cup season. A trip to the First Round of the Emirates FA Cup took in wins over Haywards Heath Town, Kingstonian, Eastbourne Borough and Woking, whilst in the Velocity Trophy they've defeated Hythe Town, Corinthian-Casuals and Haywards Heath Town- again, as well as Folkestone Invicta to reach this stage. They also reached the Semi-Final of the Sussex Senior Cup.

Margate have had a better league campaign than their opponents, but their cup success has been mainly confined to this competition, with the Blues defeating Herne Bay, Tooting & Mitcham United, Carshalton Athletic and Haringey Borough to reach the final.

In the League, the Hornets triumphed two-one at Hartsdown Park, whilst the Blues won one-nil at the Camping World Community Stadium.

In the Pitching In Isthmian South Central, Chipstead have rather a long midweek commute, as they get on a plane and head to the Channel Islands to face Guernsey tonight.

The Chips have been in fine form of late, and travel on the back of a run that sees them seven matches unbeaten and with one defeat in nine. That defeat came at the hands of runaway champions Bracknell Town, and the Chips have taken four points from Hanwell Town, defeated Bedfont Sports and drawn with Uxbridge- and given that they defeated Chertsey Town four-two shortly before that run started, our promotion-chasers will be glad that they don't have to face them in what's left of the run in.

The Green Lions got back to winning ways against Chalfont St Peter on Saturday after losing their previous four. They are just about free from trouble, but are six points behind their visitors and would like another win to be sure of safety. The last time the two met, the Chips won by three goals to nil, Andy Kabiukusomo and two from the long-departed Tom Collins, who is now part of that Hanwell Town side who must be sick of the sight of his former club.
