Leiston moved to within two points of the play-off places after a comprehensive 4-0 win on a freezing Wednesday night on the Sussex coast against Peacehaven & Telscombe, writes Pitchero's Steve Whitney.

The Suffolk outfit produced a fine performance that saw them take an early lead through Darren Mills after just five minutes had gone on the clock.

The lead was then doubled after 42 minutes by a Gareth Heath free-kick. And then two goals early in the second half from Joe Francis and Patrick Brothers sealed a fine win that lifted Leiston to sixth place in the table.

Not too far away at the Dripping Pan, Lewes and Canvey Island were looking to push further away from the bottom end of the table.

And it was the visitors who followed up last Saturday's 5-2 hammering of Tonbridge Angels with a 2-1 success in Sussex that lifted them to sixteenth in the table.

The Gulls took the lead right on the stroke of half-time when Enoch Showumni capitalised on a poor back pass to slot the ball past Rikki Banks to score for the third match in succession.

However, Canvey were reduced to ten-men five minutes after the break when Steve Smith was dismissed for a poor challenge on Rooks defender Henry Muggeridge.

The hosts made the man advantage count with 13 minutes to play thanks to a fine strike from Tom Davis. But the visitors defended well after that and got their reward five minutes from time when the on-loan George Sykes finished well to win the game.
