Wednesday's Ryman Premier action review

By David Watters

There were three matches in the Ryman League Premier Division on Wednesday with all three producing away wins, writes Pitchero's Steve Whitney.

The biggest surprise was leaders Leiston going down to a 3-0 defeat at Victory Road against East Thurrock United.

The Rocks` top scorer Sam Higgins grabbed a hat-trick to complete an early season 'double' for the Essex outfit. A defensive mistake let in Higgins for the opener in the 57th minute and another defensive slip allowed him to add a second with 20 minutes to go. He completed his hat-trick from the penalty spot five minutes later.

Grays Athletic`s poor recent league form has seen them slip from the top to eighth and they went down to a 2-0 defeat at Mill Field against mid-table Leatherhead.

The deadlock was broken six minutes into the second half when Adi Yussuf opened the Tanners` account. And they also completed an early `double` over their opponents when sub Tashan Adeyinka made it 2-0 in injury-time.

Staines Town moved above Burgess Hill Town after beating the Hillians 2-0 at Leylands Park.

The crowd of 337 had to wait until the 66th minute for the opening goal to arrive through Luke Wanadio but the second took only a further three minutes to come, courtesy of Jack Hutchinson.
