Westfield and Uxbridge march on- and so close for the Swans

By Ian Townsend

It was FA Cup First Qualifying Round day, and it was a mixed afternoon for our South central sides

We had an all South-Central tie at the Robert Parker Stadium, as Ashford Town (Middx) welcomed Westfield. Field started the campaign with a bang, with thumping wins against Leatherhead and Basingstoke Town, but had gone off the boil a little of late, losing their last two; whilst the Tangerines had been in superb form, with only one defeat from seven matches in all competitions this season, three wins in a row coming into this one. Well when Westfield have won, they’ve scored four- so perhaps we should have seen another four goal haul coming, as that’s exactly what we got.

The visitors went ahead just before the half hour, Troy Walters with the opener, and just after the hour went two up courtesy of Nathaniel Mensah- but at that point the hosts finally got going, Luke Maguire and Dale Burnham drawing them level. Twelve minutes from time, Field went ahead once more, Walters with his second of the match, and number four came right at the end, Jacob Breckon sending them to the Second Qualifying Round for the first time in their history.

Ashford United welcomed Hanworth Villa to Homelands, and effectively won the match in the first half an hour. Adem Ramadan’s thunderbolt made it one-nil after six minutes, Luke Diakiesse made it two on twenty nine, and the Villians consolation came just before full time, Sam Merson from the spot.

Basingstoke Town won their last FA Cup tie six-nil, but Weston Super Mare provided tougher opponents than Lymington Town. The visitors were two up by twelve minutes, three-one by half time, and finally won four-two despite a brace from Ezio Touray for the hosts.

Holyport host Binfield TODAY. The Moles have had a magnificent start to the season, with four wins out of five and only one goal conceded. Holyport play in Combined Counties Premier North, and have drawn all of their league matches so far this season- but they did win in Cup and Vase.

Leatherhead welcomed Chichester City in the meeting of two all-green-mean-machines- but it was the visiting green mean machine which was the meaner. Elliott Buchanan gave the Tanners the lead eight minutes before the break, but the visitors were level by half time through Ethan Pritchard, and a minute after the restart, ahead- Josh Clack making it two-one. Try as they might, there was no way back for the Tanners.

Marlow welcomed South Central rivals Uxbridge, and the visitors took the lead after just nine minutes, Victor Osobu with the goal. The hosts couldn’t find a way back, and then saw Curtis Ujah dismissed with twelve minutes to go. The visitors held on for victory against ten men.

Walton & Hersham hosted our featured match against Beaconsfield Town- and they came within a whisker of a giantkilling in a two-two draw. Read all about it here.
