Yachtsmen and The All slay giants on replay Tuesday

By Ian Townsend

We also had wins for Carshalton, Haringey, Whitehawk, Northwood and Horsham as the Second Qualifying Round awaits

Southall came rather close to defeating Beaconsfield Town of Pitching In Southern Premier South on Saturday, only a last minute goal robbing them of victory. Last night didn’t look as if it was going to go their way, Town two goals up after half an hour- but a second half comeback made giant killers of The All. Jaden Thompson-Brissett, who scored the opener at the weekend, got a goal back from the spot ten minutes after the restart, and eighteen minutes later another penalty saw the same player level the scores. Right at the end, just when it looked as if extra time would be required, up popped Ryan Hope to earn a famous victory for the visitors. The reward is a home tie with National League South side Hampton & Richmond Borough.

Lancing came close to pulling off a shock against Carshalton Athletic at the weekend, but sadly for the Lancers that was as good as it got for them, the Robins taking control of the replay early on and putting the result out of sight. Mark Marshall put the hosts ahead before a quarter of an hour had been played, and before we reached the Half hour mark Danny Bassett had made it two. With twenty minutes to go any chance of a comeback came to an end when Bassett added his fourth of the season, and although Alex Plummer did get one back for the Lancers Kwaku Frimpong had the last word with another late goal to make it four-one. The Robins welcome Kingstonian in Q2.

A last minute goal denied Dulwich Hamlet victory over Haringey Borough on Saturday, and Borough took advantage of the opportunity it gave them to finish the job at Coles Park and record their first win of the season. Khalifa Jabbie put the hosts ahead on thirty four minutes, delighting the Bell End, and seven minutes after the restart they were further delighted when Kasim Aidoo made it two. Hamlet were the ones to get a late goal this time, Kreshnic Krasniqi halving the defecit, but it was too little, too late for the visitors. Borough welcome Tonbridge Angels in the next round.

Horsham and Leatherhead couldn’t manage a goal between them on Saturday, but they managed three last night, the Hornets with two of them. Daniel Ajakaiye, always the most likely Horsham goalscorer in the original tie, opened the scoring on thirteen minutes, but Tanners livewire Trevan Robinson levelled just after the half hour. The winner arrived eight minutes from time, and Lucas Rodrigues brought delight to the Lardy Army and earned a match against Marlow at the Camping World Community Stadium.

Northwood needed a late, late goal to finally dispose of South Central rivals Binfield. It came in added time at the end of the match, and was scored by Carl Stewart. The Woods will host Cray Valley PM.

Wroxham came close to slaying the Concord Rangers giants on Saturday, but did a fine job of defeating their Pitching In Isthmian Premier opponents by the Norfolk Broads last night. Josh Hazel, who scored their goal at the weekend, did it again, opening the scoring on twenty minutes, and within a quarter of an hour it was two-nil, Harry Barker doubling the advantage. The next goal was all important, and it took a long time coming, but it went to the hosts, Ryan Hawkins making it three and ensuring a night of celebration for the Yachtsmen. Wroxham will now travel to take on Barton Rovers.

Whitehawk and Sevenoaks Town couldn’t manage a goal between them at the weekend, but the Hawks managed two before half time last night, Charlie Lambert’s fourth of the season and Tommy Brewer’s first putting them two-nil up at the break. With twelve minutes left Solomon Baugh converted a spot kick for the visitors, but the Hawks held on for victory and will host Redhill.

Bedford Town, top of Pitching In Southern Division One Central, had won every match they’d played this season prior to the visit of Walthamstow at the weekend, but saw that record end after a goalless draw on Saturday. Sadly they made no mistake in the replay, wining five-nil.

In another cup tie, the Velocity Cup Second Round, Ipswich Wanderers triumphed three-nil against Witham Town. All of the goals came after the break, Matt Paine, Josh Folkes and Kai Fletcher ensuring a home win.
