2021-22 Supporters Predictions- revisited: North

The reason that bookmakers are universally wealthy is that picking the outcome of sporting competitions is rather difficult, and each season our supporters tend to prove that when they predict the outcome of the campaign about to start.

Time to compare and contrast, starting with the Pitching In Isthmian North.

Firstly, the good news, which is rather short! You were only one place out for Aveley, and two places out for Canvey Island. You also got two of the bottom three right, predicting correctly the demise of Romford and the difficulties of Witham Town, who will be staying with us after their relegation play off win. You also predicted a trying season for Basildon United, Hullbridge Sports and Great Wakering Rovers.

Now, the less good news. First and foremost, you placed relegated Barking in seventh place, although you can take credit for the fact that none of us really expected their sudden descent into the underworld. Your prediction for third place Brentwood Town was just as far off the mark- you had them finishing in fifteenth!

You will also have been dumfounded by the success of Stowmarket Town and Felixstowe and Walton United, and you were well out in your prediction of Maldon & Tiptree as champions- although to be fair, everyone expected better from the Jammers. You believed that Tilbury would finish third, and Dockers fans everywhere are shouting, “we wish!”

Grays Athletic also did better than you expected, but not quite well enough, whilst Heybridge Swifts and Bury Town were rather less successful than you thought.

Thanks for taking the time to predict. Your predicted tables are pinned up on dressing room walls in many places at the start of the season, and may prove an inspiration to a number of sides desperate to prove them right- or wrong!
