2021-22 Supporters Predictions- revisited: Premier Division

By Ian Townsend

Last summer our supporters predicted the outcome of the Pitching In Isthmian Premier- let's see how they did, and who was a surprise package.

The reason that bookmakers are universally wealthy is that picking the outcome of sporting competitions is rather difficult, and each season our supporters tend to prove that when they predict the outcome of the campaign about to start.

Time to compare and contrast, starting with the Pitching In Isthmian Premier.

Firstly, the good news. You were absolutely right about Worthing- although in truth that didn't take the skill of Nostradamus! You also placed Hornchurch in the top five, albeit in second rather than fourth, which was where they finished, but your expectations of Carshalton Athletic and Kingstonian absolutely weren't met. For much of the campaign it looked as if you'd be right about the prospects of Folkestone Invicta, and indeed you were only out by three places, but those three places might as well have been a chasm for fans of the stripes.

You expected Cheshunt to finish the campaign in mid table, and here we are congratulating them on their promotion- but to be fair, none of us- except perhaps Craig Edwards, and he didn't get a vote- saw that coming.

Enfield Town and Bishop's Stortford defied your predictions to take home advantage in the play off's, for all the good it did them, whilst Horsham didn't do as well as you expected but would perhaps have happily traded three places in the table for the League Cup, which they won last month.

At the wrong end, you were absolutely right about Merstham, but surprised by Leatherhead's struggles. You weren't too far wrong with your predictions about East Thurrock United, but the Rocks would have rather you'd been right rather than the actual league table, and you had Brightlingsea Regent only two places above their actual finishing point, although those two places made all the difference to the side from the Taydal.

Wingate & Finchley will be delighted that they cast off your predictions to finish thirteen points clear of the bottom three.

Thanks for taking the time to predict. Your predicted tables are pinned up on dressing room walls in many places at the start of the season, and may prove an inspiration to a number of sides desperate to prove them right- or wrong!

We'll be back with more in July!
