A Penfold debut for the depleted Nuts and Bolts

By Ian Townsend

Tommy Penfold is new at Ashford United

Ashford United were only able to name three substitutes for their match at Merstham on Saturday, so it was rather unsurprising that one of them, defender Thomas Penfold, was thrust into the fray in the second half.

Tommy comes in from Hastings United, but he hadn't been at Pilot Field for long, joining the club in November. He had been there long enough to play twenty times, however, scoring the winner in a five goal thriller against Kingstonian in his second match.

Tommy previously played for K Sports, Bearsted, Kennington, Canterbury City, Crowborough Athletic and Whitstable Town in the SCEFL, but the defender started this season at Hastings Pitching In Isthmian Premier rivals Cray Wanderers, where he made eight appearances.
