A Premier Trophy Saturday

By Ian Townsend

Our Pitching In Isthmian Premier sides are in FA Trophy action today. Here's what we have to look forward to

Billericay Town will look to bounce back from their midweek Cup exit as they welcome Margate in a clash of two Blues, whilst another all Isthmian-Premier clash sees Bognor Regis Town welcome Bowers & Pitsea. This will be their first of two meetings this month- Bowers again make the trip on October 18th.

Canvey Island welcome our current South Central champions Bracknell Town, currently mid table in Pitching In Southern Premier South. The Robins have lost only one of their last six in all competitions, whilst the Gulls have lost only one of their last eight.

Carshalton Athletic haven’t yet found any consistency this season, and they welcome a side who have a positive recent cup pedigree, Cray Valley PM. The Millers have already defeated one Pitching In Isthmian Premier side this season, hammering Hastings United in the FA Cup, and know what it feels like to be giantkillers. That said, the last time the Robins took on South East opposition they scored five- last month against VCD Athletic in the FA Cup.

Corinthian-Casuals, without a win since the opening day, travel to take on Harrow Borough. Despite Casuals being the home side, the match will be played at Borough as Casuals stadium is still out of commission after recent storm damage. Borough are seventeenth in Pitching In Southern Premier South, but have looked improved of late, winning two of their last three.

Enfield Town have been in fine form, and they put it to the test as Pitching In Southern Premier South high flyers Chesham United arrive at Donkey Lane. United are on a run which has seen them lose only one of their last nine.

Folkestone Invicta will hope to take the form they showed when knocking Dulwich Hamlet out of the FA Cup last weekend into the Trophy, as Whitehawk come to call. The Hawks are nine games unbeaten and will be no pushovers.

Hanwell Town, these days of Pitching In Southern Premier Central, welcome Cray Wanderers. The Wands were impressive in victory against Corinthian-Casuals in midweek, and indeed have been impressive on a number of occasions this season; whilst the Geordies are having a fine first campaign at Step Three and sit in fourth place- but they have gone three without a win.

Haringey Borough and Brightlingsea Regent meet on White Hart Lane. The two know each other well, having drawn one-one in the league only two weeks ago.

Harlow Town are the next side to face the oncoming Hornchurch juggernaut. The Urchins have won their last seven matches in all competitions, and indeed nine of their last ten, and are in fine form. The hosting Hawks, seventeenth in Pitching In Southern Division One Central, have won four matches this season, three against Isthmian opposition in Cup and Trophy.

Herne Bay welcome Bishop's Stortford to the Kent coast, the visiting Blues top of the Pitching In Isthmian Premier table whilst their hosts are second from the bottom. Stortford have gone five matches without conceding a single goal, and their hosts announced the departure of striker Zak Ansah earlier this week.

Horsham welcome Aveley in another all-Premier clash, and that pattern continues as draw specialists Kingstonian and Wingate & Finchley meet at Imperial Fields. When they met in mid August in the league, the outcome was- you guessed it- a draw.

Lewes will hope a new month might change their fortunes after September saw them depart the FA Cup against Pitching In South East opposition and fail to take a League point. The Rooks may have to work extremely hard for victory, however, as their visitors are Sevenoaks Town, who are still in Cup and trophy and of course defeated National League South side Bath City last weekend.

Metropolitan Police play host to Hastings United. The Boys in Blue have already defeated two Isthmian sides- Corinthian and Burgess Hill Town- in cup competitions this season, but United should be a much trickier prospect. Hastings have won their last three matches by one goal to nil, and would love to see that pattern continue.

Potters Bar Town and Heybridge Swifts are both having fine campaigns, albeit a division apart. The Scholars, hosts for Swifts this weekend, are being kept off the top of the Pitching In Isthmian Premier only on goal difference and have two games in hand, such has been their form; whilst Swifts remain unbeaten in the North Division.
