A South Central Cup Preview

By Ian Townsend

The majority of our South Central clubs are in action in the FA Cup Preliminary Round tomorrow. Here’s a brief preview.

Ascot United will hope to bounce back from their opening day defeat against Raynes Park Vale as they welcome Mangotsfield United of the Hellenic Premier Division, their visitors having won four-one in the league in midweek.

Athletic Newham of the Essex Senior League play host to Westfield. Newham lost their first match of the season so far ion midweek, and defeated Tooting & Mitcham United in the last round, whilst Westfield defeated Fisher after a replay to reach this stage and lost at Guernsey last weekend.

Badshot Lea’s match against Lancing will be our featured game, so you’ll find a report here at around fifteen minutes after the final whistle, the Lancers looking to build on a perfect start to the campaign, the hosts looking to recover from opening day defeat.

Bearsted, who defeated Wembley on the road to Wembley in the last round, are unbeaten this season, and the SCEFL side play host to Southall, who knocked out Chichester City in the last round before narrowly losing their opening league match.

Buckhurst Hill, having taken two points from their first four Essex Senior League matches, welcome Northwood, who travel via Metropolitan Line and Central Line, changing at Liverpool Street! Woods started with a big win last weekend and will travel with confidence.

We’ve an all-South Central tie as Corinthian-Casuals welcome Uxbridge, the visitors having yet to play a league match after defeated Tunbridge Wells in the Cup, whilst Casuals wish they hadn’t played a league match after their opener ended in heavy defeat; whilst Crawley Down Gatwick, who came close to joining our ranks last season, welcome Hanworth Villa. Although the hosts knocked out local rivals Three Bridges in the last round, they have lost both league matches since.

Hartley Wintney will hope to bounce back after opening day defeat as they welcome Wessex League side Sherborne Town, who sit in second place and undefeated after their opening three fixtures.

Redhill have started the Combined Counties Premier South season perfectly, and have so far won every match they’ve played- but their opponents, Ashford Town, can say the same, their season so far seeing them score seven goals without conceding any.

Snodland Town welcome Chertsey Town. The hosts are unbeaten in the SCEFL Premier, drawing three-three with deal Town in midweek, whilst the Curfews had a positive start against Hanworth Villa last weekend. We’ve an all-South Central tie as South Park Reigate and Leatherhead, both victors on opening day, meet for the first time this season.

Wallingford & Crowmarsh play host to one of our South Central promotion favourites, Marlow, the visitors looking to bounce back after narrow defeat on the opening day. The hosts defeated Chalfont St Peter in the opening round, and then were hammered in the league in midweek.
