A Tuesday Night Cup extravaganza

By Ian Townsend

We’ve the FA Cup, Velocity Cup and Reposs Women’s Cup- head along and watch a match!

Ahead of us this evening we’ve a big night of Cup football.

In the FA Cup, Canvey Island travel to National League South side Braintree Town hoping to slay that giant at the second time of asking, whilst at the Artic Stadium Cray Valley PM, still unbeaten in all competitions, put that record on the line once more against a Northwood side who have lost only once this season, that defeat coming against the Millers South East promotion rivals Ramsgate in the FA Trophy. Scunthorpe United or Brackley Town will travel to face the winners.

It’s a quick turnaround for Wingate and Finchley who, following their goalless draw against Farnborough on Sunday, and heading to Hampshire to try again. Farnborough are unbeaten at home this season, so the Blues will have to work hard to knock down that fortress. The victors will host Weston Super Mare.

We’ve another titanic Kentish Seaside tussle as Folkestone Invicta and Margate meet for the third time this season. Invicta won the league encounter between the sides and looked as if they’d done the same on Saturday, only for the Blues to level deep into added time to force this replay. Invicta are four unbeaten against the Blues- and indeed have lost only two of their last eleven against these opponents. Winners go to Chesham United.

Marlow felt unlucky that they didn’t defeat Premier Division Horsham at the Camping World Community Stadium on Saturday; whilst Horsham will be feeling similarly aggrieved that they didn’t finish the job, given they failed from the spot in the initial two-two draw. The two sides meet again in the land of red kites this evening, the winners welcoming Hanworth Villa.

Wroxham welcome Barton Rovers to the Norfolk Broads. The Yachtsmen went ahead in Saturday’s tie only to be quickly pegged back, but will feel confident that they can finish the job on their own patch. A trip to Bishop’s Stortford or Biggleswade Town awaits the victors.

The Velocity Cup has two Kentish derbies in its Second Round, and a Surrey derby too. In the Garden of England Sheppey United welcome Herne Bay whilst Sittingbourne play host to Hythe Town, whilst in leafy commuter land- actually, Tolworth doesn’t quite count- Corinthian-Casuals play host to Westfield.

Finally, in the Reposs Women’s Cup, Coles Park is the venue as Haringey Borough welcome London Seaward.
