AB1 Golden Gloves Awards- August 2021

By Ian Townsend

Here are the winners of our first Golden Gloves Awards of the season, sponsored by AB1 Goalkeeping

It seems such a long time that since we gave out any awards that it’s almost surreal to be writing this- but it’s time to recognise the meanest defences of the season so far! Please note, the outcomes are all calculated on statistics in league matches. So here we go:

Premier Division

Folkestone Invicta delivered three clean sheets from their four Pitching In Isthmian Premier Division matches in August, won three times, remain unbeaten, and conceded only one goal. That’s a fantastic start to the campaign for Neil Cugley’s men, and it is built on a fabulous defence, marshalled by Tim Roberts who has been between the sticks for every game so far. Congrats to Tim and his miserly back four.

North Division

Grays Athletic ended August top of the table and with a one hundred percent record- although they then had to contend with the retirement of manager Jim Cooper. Athletic keeper Danny Sambridge has been ever-present, and he and his defence should take a well-deserved bow.

South Central Division

The Uxbridge defence has been particularly parsimonious since the start of the season, which goes a long way towards explaining why they are in third place in the table, unbeaten, and have only conceded two goals. Tribute is due to their number one, Tyler Tobin, who has been in superb form, aided by those around him. Congratulations to all at Honeycroft.

South East Division

Three games, three wins, and only two goals conceded- it’s been a fine start to the season for Haywards Heath Town. We’ve a shiny new pair of gloves heading to Hanbury Park for keeper Billy Collings, but given that keeping them out is a team effort we’d like to pay tribute to everyone at Heath, who have been superb.

Thanks to AB1 Goalkeeping for being our sponsors. You can take a look at their magnificent products- and they don’t just sell gloves- by heading HERE.

Premier League winner and international goalkeeper Asmir Begovic will be best known for his work between the posts, particularly for Stoke City, Chelsea and AFC Bournemouth. But he also has his own company- AB1 Goalkeeping- who provide magnificent products for discerning goalkeepers everywhere- and we are lucky enough to have them as sponsors of our Golden Gloves Award. As they explain:

'AB1 Goalkeeping was the brainchild of one of the Premier League’s leading goalkeepers, Asmir Begovic. With his 15 years’ experience playing at the highest levels of top-flight international football, plus a development team with over 20 years’ experience of developing first-class goalkeeping products, we have a range of equipment to suit all levels of the game, from Grass Roots Football to the Premier League.'
