All eyes on the A264!

By Ian Townsend

Our top two- Ramsgate and Sittingbourne- are at either end of the A264, whilst VCD Athletic could also hit the summit by 5PM. Here's our Pitching In Isthmian South East preview.

Our leaders, Ramsgate, will be looking over their shoulders at Sittingbourne and VCD Athletic as they travel to face East Grinstead Town. The Rams have uncharacteristically taken only one point from their last two matches, whilst the Wasps have turned their fortunes upwards with two consecutive wins- both in Sussex derbies. The Rams took six points from last season’s meetings.

Second Place Sittingbourne will also be on the A264, the Brickies travelling to face Three Bridges, who the Wasps defeated in midweek. Bridges are without a league win since August 27th, but they have been distracted by Cup and Trophy since then; whilst the Brickies are four games unbeaten in all competitions.

VCD Athletic are in third, Vickers having taken ten points from their last twelve- including a collection from rivals Ramsgate and Beckenham Town. They host Sheppey United, the Ites three games unbeaten and with the confidence boost of a win over the leaders and a draw with Whitehawk in their last two.

Ashford United and Cray Valley PM meet at Homelands. The Nuts and Bolts have won their last three in the League, whilst the Millers have gone three without a win. The last time the two met, back in February, United won three-one.

Chatham Town could climb as high as second if they can win at Haywards Heath Town. The Chats haven’t lost a league match since the opening day and are having a fine season, whilst Heath have hit bump after bump, winning only two of their eight matches so far. They were on a three match unbeaten run until Sittingbourne came to call last weekend, however, so will hope that was a bump that can be quickly smoothed over.

Chichester City welcome Hythe Town in a mid table battle. If City could turn draws into wins- they have four draws from seven- they would be further up the table, having only lost once. They have a three match unbeaten run to extend- but only won one of those. The Cannons have played only one league match since mid September, a goalless draw against Littlehampton Town, and have gone three without a win in all competitions since then.

Faversham Town welcome Lancing. The Lilywhites only league win this season came on August Bank Holiday Monday, form which has seen them slump to second bottom, whilst the Lancers are only two points better off, and last won on the same day.

Finally, bottom side Corinthian welcome Burgess Hill Town. The Hoops are still looking for a first victory and have only one point, whilst the Hillians have only one defeat from their last six across all competitions, that coming in the Velocity Trophy last month, and have begun to climb the table.

Where next?

Death by Dagger(s) Beckenham Town have had a wonderful season so far, and were within a match of the FA Cup First Round- but National League Dagenham & Redbridge had other ideas.
Can the chasing pack narrow the gap? Northwood have a five point lead- but a difficult match at Basingstoke, whilst second place Binfield are finally back in league action. It’s our Pitching In Isthmian South Central preview
