Alzapiedi is back as new Ambers boss

Former Ware, Waltham Abbey, Canvey Island and Harlow Town manager Glen Alzapiedi will be back on the touchline in the Ryman League on Saturday as the new manager of Cheshunt.

Alzapiedi, pictured, resigned from his post as assistant manager at Conference South Concord Rangers to succeed former Arsenal striker Omer Riza who parted company with the Ryman North club on Tuesday.

Riza took the helm at Theobalds Lane last October and left after a poor start to campaign that saw the Ambers collect just five points from six outings. The club's exit from the FA Cup on Saturday when they lost 1-0 at home to Thurrock in the Preliminary Round proved to be his last game in charge and the trigger for his departure. Ironically, Alzapiedi's first game in charge is against Thurrock when they return to Hertfordshire on Saturday in the league.

Alzapiedi, 48, left the Beachboys after two years, having overseen one of their most successful periods in their history including promotion to the Conference South and the lifting of the Essex Senior Cup and Ryman League Cup.

The new Ambers manager kicked off his managerial career at Ware in 2007, leading the club to the FA Cup's First Round before switching to Ryman North rivals Harlow a year later and spending one season with the Hawks. He followed that with two years at Waltham Abbey and a season at Canvey before leaving the club in July 2012.
