Ambassadors can retain trophy

By David Watters

The Middlesex Wanderers are hoping to keep hold of the Ryman League's Robert Dyas Veterans Cup on Sunday when they take on Ramsgate in the final.

Winners of the competition for the first time in 2014 when they beat Kingstonian 3-1, the Middlesex Wanderers are preparing to face the veterans from the Rams at VCD Athletic's Oakwood ground in a 3pm kick-off.

The sporting ambassadors have won countless trophies over the last century around the world and have the chance to retain the cup as the competition wasn't played to a conclusion in 2015.

To reach Sunday's final, the holders beat Brentwood Town 6-3 in their semi-final while Ramsgate needed penalties to overcome Aveley after the sides couldn't be separated at 1-1.

The turnstiles open at 2pm at the home of the Vickers in Old Road, Crayford.

Robert Dyas took over the sponsorship of the Ryman Veterans Cup two seasons ago when the Ryman Group renewed and expanded its long-running partnership to 19 years.

The homewares retailer also took over the sponsorship of the Robert Dyas League Cup, the Robert Dyas Disability Cup and the Robert Dyas Youth Play-off Cup.

At the time, another Ryman Group company, lingerie specialists Boux Avenue, started their sponsorship of the Ryman's Women Cup, lifted this season on Thursday night by Tottenham Hotspur Ladies after they beat Charlton Athletic Women on penalties at Cheshunt's Theobalds Lane.
