Another Sports comeback- and five for the Curfews

By Ian Townsend

Bedfont manage to snatch another win from defeat, Chertsey march on, and the Geordies give themselves a cushion. It's our Pitching In Isthmian South Central round up.

Guernsey looked to have taken all three points from the visit of promotion-chasers Bedfont Sports, but Sports have a habit of scoring late goals, and did so again. A sixth minute goal from Keene Domaille put the Green Lions ahead, Sports equalising through Jordan Espirit, but the hosts turned on the style and were three-one up at the break, Domaille and Ben Acey seemingly putting them in control. It took until twenty minutes into the second half for Sports to narrow the deficit, Daniel Williams with the goal, and with just two minutes to go the visitors got an equaliser, Darryl Sanders with the goal. And then, right at the end, Williams stepped up with a fourth and his second to send the points back to the end of the Heathrow runway and keep Sports in third, now guaranteed a play off place.

Chertsey Town, in second place, were quickly ahead at Sutton Common Rovers, Andrew Crossley opening the scoring after just three minutes. By the time we’d reached the twentieth minute Jake Baxter had added two more, and three minutes later Will Montague made it four. Baxter grabbed his hat trick on the hour, and although Yao Aziamale got one back for Rovers it was no more than a consolation. The Curfews are guaranteed a home play off Semi-Final.

Hanwell Town desperately needed points to hold onto their top five spot, and they had a good start against Tooting & Mitcham United, Ogo Obi scoring after a quarter of an hour. It got better when Jack Hutchinson made it two eight minutes before the break, and on fifty six minutes Gareth Chendlik made it three. Billy Brown got one back for the Terrors, who then went down to ten men as Nathan Daly saw red. The Geordies now have a three point cushion.

Uxbridge needed a victory, but they didn’t start too well, Daniel Fosu putting hosts Thatcham Town ahead after twenty six minutes. It got worse for the Red Army when Tyler Tobin saw red, but at least the hosts Lamar Koroma went for an early bath too, and midway through the second half Bradley Passfield made it nine v ten as he departed for the Kingfishers. The visitors couldn’t make the most of that advantage, nor a penalty they were awarded, and their play off hopes now hang by a thread.

South Park saw Melford Simpson put them ahead after twelve minutes as they welcomed Ashford Town (Middx), and that turned out to be the only goal of the game.

Chalfont St Peter and Northwood had an opening half without a goal, and then soon after the restart Luke Tingey saw red for the visitors. Would that assist a breakthrough? Well we had another red card, also for Northwood, as Sam Jenkins departed, and eventually eleven v nine made a difference, Micah Jackson getting the opener for the Saints with eleven minutes left. That was that, but the Saints will either have a play off place to avoid relegation, or if they are lucky, a reprieve.
