Another win for the Blues sees the gap stretch to eight points

Brentwood and Wroxham are our Friday Night North victors

Brentwood Town welcomed Grays Athletic, the fifth place Blues desperate to increase their lead over sixth place Heybridge Swifts- and that’s exactly what they did, delivering a comfortable victory.

The hosts went ahead on twenty minutes, Romel Aarons Royal with the opener, and the lead was doubled in added time at the end of the first half, Wyan Reid with his third in four matches something of a body blow for Athletic. The visitors did get a goal back, Matas Skarna giving them hope just before the hour, but that hope took only four minutes to depart, Mekhi McKenzie’s twelfth in twenty two games sealing the win for the Blues, who have only two defeats from ten and have now defeated Athletic twice this season.

At Coles Park New Salamis met Wroxham, fourteenth v twelfth- and a rematch of a game that the Salamina won as recently as March 19th. That match wasn’t close, a three-nil victory, but the Yachtsmen were determined to exact revenge last night and did exactly that, winning two-one.

Ryan Hawkins was the visitors main man. The Wroxham number nine got his sixteenth goal of the season just before the half hour, and then doubled the scoreline eight minutes into the second half to give the hosts an uphill struggle. They did get a goal back four minutes from time, Albert Adu scoring it- but within a few moments the goalscorer had seen red, his side reduced to ten men, and the chance of a late comeback was over.

Wroxham are twelfth, now eight points above their hosts.
