We join with the football community to mourn the passing of Southern League Chair, Anthony Hughes

The Pitching In Southern League have announced the passing of their Chair, Anthony Hughes.

Anthony has held the roles of Director, Vice President, Vice Chair and Chair of the Southern League since he first joined the board in 2003. Away from his league role, he was dedicated to his club, Merthyr Town, where he was a mainstay for more than three decades, a supporter through thick and thin and also on occasions Club Secretary, Director and Board Member.

Anthony was also the FA Council Representative for the Southern League from 2016 – 2023.

He should, of course, be remembered with enormous gratitude for his incredible work for our Non League community, but more than that, for being a decent, kind, hard working and generous man, who will be greatly missed.

Our love and deepest condolences go to his family and friends, and to all at the Southern League.
