Athletic up to third- whilst Chertsey get back to winning ways, and the Rams march on

Our round up of last night's Pitching In Isthmian North and Velocity Trophy action

Grays Athletic continued their recent fine run, making it one defeat in six with victory over Wroxham at Parkside last night.

Athletic took the lead just before the break. Anointed Chukwu, who has been in fine form of late, made it six goals for the season by heading home a Sam Bantick cross. Bantick has also been in fine form, and he made sure of the points with goal number two- also six for the season- and also scoring with his head, just after the hour. The Yachtsmen had their chances, but didn't take them- and the defeat leaves them in eighteenth place, whilst Grays are third.

That's a scoring run of five games for Chukwu.

In the Velocity Trophy New Salamis played host to Chertsey Town, who were without a manager and without a win in five. The match put the second one of those statements right, as the Curfews came from behind to record a three-two win. Bryan Taylor gave the visitors an early lead, but Salamis turned things around with an equaliser from Elijah Ogunseye ten minutes before the break and another goal from Pap Jawara just before the half time whistle went.

Jake Baxter has been short of goals of late, but put that right with the equaliser almost immediately after the restart, and the winner came just before the hour, William Montague sending Town through to the next round.

Ramsgate, three points clear at the top of Pitching In Isthmian South East, welcomed Kent neighbours Hythe Town. The Rams are unbeaten in the league but hadn't been quite so focused in the Cups, departing both FA Cup and FA Trophy at the first hurdle- but they had already defeated Hythe this season, and they did it again last night for their first Cup victory of the campaign. Both goals came in the first half, Tijan Jadama with his third of the season, Ashley Miller with his second, and that was that.
