Former Wimbledon, Watford, Sheffield United, Crystal Palace, Nottingham Forest, Barnsley and Leicester City manager Dave Bassett will be the guest of honour at a Middlesex Wanderers dinner to commemorate World War One.

Bassett, 70, will be the guest speaker at the charity fundraising club's annual dinner at the Holiday Inn in London's Regents Park on Saturday week (November 15).

The event, entitled 'A Century of Non League Football and a Commemoration of World War One', starts at 7.30pm immediately after England take on Slovenia, a 5pm fixture that organisers say will be shown on TVs around the West End hotel prior to the dinner.

Bassett, pictured attending a Sheffield United Community Foundation event, played for the Ryman League's Walton & Hersham between 1969 and 1974 and was captain of the side that won the FA Amateur Cup in 1973. As a manager, he made his name guiding Wimbledon to the old First Division just nine years after the club joined the Football League.

Wanderers AFC have been sporting ambassadors since 1905 and count Sir Bobby Charlton as their president. Tickets for the event are priced at £50 with a dress code of lounge suits.
