Bay bag bragging rights -and close to within three points of the top five

Herne Bay boost their promotion hopes- and hit Hythe’s- in the only South East match not washed away

Only one Pitching In Isthmian South East match survived yesterday’s latest deluge, and it was a big one, a Kentish seaside derby as Hythe Town welcomed Herne Bay. The hosts started the day twelve points away from a top five spot with four games in hand, so we suspected that a home win was crucial, but sadly for the damp Cannons fans in attendance their side couldn’t provide such a thing.

Bay went ahead on thirty four minutes, Scott Heard finishing well after being set up by Vance Bola, but the Cannons levelled early in the second half, former Bay man Kane Phillip finishing from a tight angle. The match remained poised until eleven minutes from time, at which point it tilted in favour of the visitors. Gil Carvalho restored their advantage after a cross from Michael Salako, and they made sure a minute from time, Tom Hanfrey making sure of three points.

Bay are still seventh, but only three points behind fifth place Lancing. Hythe are ninth, slipping down a place on goal difference, but twelve points away from the promised land with only three of those games in hand remaining.
