BetVictor Isthmian League- supporters predictions 2019/20: Maldon & Tiptree

We head to the North Division, where it’s jam today, Jammers tomorrow, as Maldon & Tiptree fan David Garwood predicts more success for his club, whilst wearing a balaclava helmet and recommending you do the same.

We asked supporters of our BetVictor Isthmian League clubs to preview the new season, reflect on the old and predict the final outcome. Their predicted 1-20 (or 22) will be worked into a final table which you will see just before the big kick off.

It’s time to head to the Maldon and Tiptree, and hear the views Jammers fan David Garwood.

1. What was your favourite moment of last season?

Reaching the end of season play off final.

2. And your worst moment?

Losing that play off game to local rivals Heybridge Swifts

3. How will you do this season?

We are hoping to again at least reach the play offs, but again this season we will start with almost a new team. A lot of last season’s line up have moved on so we don't really know how we will perform.

4. Which matches are you most looking forward to going to- and why?

I’m always keen to visit new grounds so I am really looking forward to visiting Histon, Cambridge and Hullbridge. We think we get on well with the other teams in our league so will be looking forward to seeing some familiar faces again.

5. What is your favourite away ground?

All grounds tend to offer a warm welcome, but I suppose AFC Sudbury and Bury Town are usually good grounds to visit and our results there are normally pretty good

6. Who do you consider your biggest rivals- and why?

Heybridge Swifts purely because of the closeness of both clubs, with less than a couple of miles between us. Although it is now becoming more of a sporting rivalry, typified by our club sharing Swifts disappointment at missing out on promotion after beating us fair and square in the play off final.

7. What advice would you give to any away supporter visiting you for the first time?

Allow time to visit the riverside (about 1/2 mile away).

Also, the club house offers a full range of alcoholic drinks while the tea bar provides the full range of hot and cold food and drink, so come and enjoy. One more thing; even in early and late summer it can get very cold at the ground with winds blowing off the river- so wrap up well while in the main winter months it’s double layers of clothing all round and headgear is a must.

8. Who is your favourite player of all time (for your club)- and why?
Billy Roast, who, during his two spells with the club, displayed real class and skill, always appearing to have loads of time on or off the ball to overcome the opposition attackers.

9. Who will be in the top five at the end of the season?
Cogeshall Town, Heybridge Swifts, Maldon & Tiptree, Aveley, Grays Athletic.

Right, you've read David’s thoughts, do you want to be next? If you'd like to represent your club, then please send an email to townsendaround@gmail.com and we shall see what we can do!
