BetVictor Isthmian League- supporters predictions 2019/20: Potters Bar Town

We’re back in the Premier Division, where we hear from Alex Potters Bar-nham, a gentleman and a Scholar

We asked supporters of our BetVictor Isthmian League clubs to preview the new season, reflect on the old and predict the final outcome. Their predicted 1-20 (or 22) will be worked into a final table which you will see just before the big kick off.

It’s time to head to the Pakex, and hear the views of prominent Bar Army member Alex Barnham, who is pictured below wearing a fine t-shirt and holding a rather large burger. You have to do that at Potters Bar, it’s the law.

1. What was your favourite moment of last season?

The 5-2 win away at Harlow Town with a few weeks left of the season. We were toying with the relegation places and a loss would’ve seen Harlow make ground against us with some tough games to finish. The game was over in about 20 minutes with three very quick goals, and it turned into a little bit of a party atmosphere as the stress of possible relegation had been temporarily lifted.

2. And your worst moment?

Losing 4-2 away at Wingate and Finchley. A bit of a local derby and also a relegation battle with only a few weeks left of the season to go, and we delivered a fairly poor performance in what we thought was a must- win game.

Although it turned out alright in the end, it was a very quiet trip back with relegation looming.

3. How will you do this season?

Hopefully an improvement on last season. We’ve retained the core of last year’s squad, and now our manager has had his first pre-season and made some new additions.

It felt as if last season we were unlucky on a number of occasions. We must’ve dropped at least 15 points in the last 5 minutes. We should be looking at pushing for the top half of the table by cutting out little mistakes although I expect a solid mid table season.

4. Which matches are you most looking forward to going to- and why?

A couple stick out. Enfield Town is always a tasty one, particularly so as a little rivalry has grown in the past season and the game normally draws decent crowds. Another highlight will be the trip down to Margate- we were lucky enough to have two last season. You can’t beat a trip to the seaside.

5. What is your favourite away ground?

Has to be Lewes. Great main stand, great terracing, love the hill on one side- and good facilities as well as lovely food. What’s not to love? I don’t think many other grounds come close although Worthing gets an honourable mention.

6. Who do you consider your biggest rivals- and why?

Enfield and Wingate probably share the role of local rivals with both only a few miles away. Both Enfield matches got a bit interesting last season but as Wingate were at a similar level to us last season they were the ones we were really bothered about- although there is not much animosity between us.

7. What advice would you give to any away supporter visiting you for the first time?

Don’t go to the local pubs- get here early as we always have the football on and love a pre-match drink. Don’t be afraid to say hello, either- we’re a friendly bunch who are up for a laugh and make sure you’re ready to make some noise.

8. Who is your favourite player of all time (for your club)- and why?
In my limited years following Potters Bar Town Ashley Nathaniel George was definitely the best player to put on the maroon kit. Always causing trouble for defenders, which explains why he’s now at Crawley Town in League Two.

9. Who will be in the top five at the end of the season?
Carshalton Athletic, Margate, Worthing, Kingstonian, Bognor Regis Town
