BetVictor Isthmian League- supporters predictions 2019/20: Waltham Abbey

South Central time once more, and we head back to the Abbey of Waltham.

We asked supporters of our BetVictor Isthmian League clubs to preview the new season, reflect on the old and predict the final outcome. Their predicted 1-20 (or 22) will be worked into a final table which you will see just before the big kick off.

Here’s an entry from the Abbey Abbott, who likes to remain incognito because he’s an international man of mystery. We know who he is, but if we told you this article would self-destruct in five seconds.

1. What was your favourite moment of last season?

It was a mixed season for us with so much optimism after the appointment of Mark Stimson. We were riding high when sadly we couldn’t compete with clubs with a higher budget and Mark left. My favourite moment was probably visiting Hanwell Town and seeing Bob Fisher doing so well and still at the club. The new league we have been placed in has given us a chance to venture to new pastures and some old, and being at the club as long as I have going back to some old haunts probably pleased me the most. Hard to pick a stand out game moment for me now.

2. And your worst moment?

The defeat at Cheshunt seemed so unjust buts that’s football. The worst moment was getting stuck in a ten mile traffic jam after losing at Tooting and Mitcham. I missed 3 hours drinking time after that.

3. How will you do this season?

Honestly, I just don’t know. As always there will be some strong teams and if we don’t start well who knows. The squad is revamped with some old faces returning who want to wear the shirt so time will tell.

4. Which matches are you most looking forward to going to- and why?

Any new one to be honest, and as stated I enjoy meeting old friends from years ago. Bracknell I hope as I missed it last year, but I will be jet lagged after my holiday. Chertsey and Staines too are grounds I’ve never seen the Abbotts play at.

5. What is your favourite away ground?

In our league, I enjoy the nostalgic Marlow and Northwood. I’ve always enjoyed my visits there.

6. Who do you consider your biggest rivals- and why?

This year, Harlow I guess- and Ware and Hertford. Just normal local derbies. FC Romania doesn’t have the same feel to it.

7. What advice would you give to any away supporter visiting you for the first time?

Wipe your shoes on the way out… did I say that last year? What can you say, we are what we are, the bar is open, the tea bar is good, give yourself enough time if coming by public transport as it’s a fair trot from the nearest train station (Waltham Cross).

8. Who is your favourite player of all time (for your club)- and why?

Can I say me? No one would know my all-time player but if Paul Holloway was playing now he would be a sensation goal machine. At the moment the service Billy Holland has given the club is second to none to be honest.

9. Who will be in the top five at the end of the season?

Bracknell Town, Staines Town, Tooting & Mitcham United, Harlow Town, Northwood.

Right, you've read the views of the Abbott, do you want to be next? If you'd like to represent your club, then please send an email to townsendaround@gmail.com and we shall see what we can do!
