BetVictor Isthmian League- supporters predictions 2019/20: Herne Bay

We’re back in the South East Division once more, and we’re sitting on the dock of Herne Bay.

We asked supporters of our BetVictor Isthmian League clubs to preview the new season, reflect on the old and predict the final outcome. Their predicted 1-20 (or 22) will be worked into a final table which you will see just before the big kick off.

Herne Bay is our next port of call. We asked the questions, and Barry Tracy has the Ansah.

1. What was your favourite moment of last season?

Barry representing Herne Bay at the Russia World Cup

Barry representing Herne Bay at the Russia World Cup

Without a doubt the 4-0 away demolition of our closest rivals Whitstable Town, or that mob up the road as they are more locally known! We went into the game on a losing run in the division of 9 games in a row. It was a sweet moment for sure.

2. And your worst moment?

The 7-1 home defeat to VCD Athletic. A truly gutless performance, and the beginning of the end for the management team.

3. How will you do this season?

We’ve a new management team and players. However we know most of them, as a lot have been at the club before. In my view the top half would be acceptable, then build on it again next season. Zak Ansah signing from Hythe Town has meant everyone is watching us now.

4. Which matches are you most looking forward to going to- and why?

The two new grounds I haven’t been to at Chichester and Whitehawk. I’m ooking forward to having a beer or two with the Ultras down in Brighton.

5. What is your favourite away ground?

Guernsey without a doubt. I’ve only missed one visit there since they joined the league, and I’m already booked up for our trip in January back to the island. A smashing club, and we get on really well with their board and fans.

6. Who do you consider your biggest rivals- and why?

That mob up the road of course, Whitstable Town. Only 5 miles apart, and there are a lot of fans who would take relegation in exchange for doing the double over them! Always the biggest crowds as well when we play them.

7. What advice would you give to any away supporter visiting you for the first time?

When the sun is out, get down early and go down to the sea front. The town is on the up following years of decline. The club is also in my opinion one of the best in the league. Loads of work has been carried out by the supporters in the close season, and there is a real clean fresh look to the place. The home changing room has been completely revamped, and the players love it.

8. Who is your favourite player of all time (for your club)- and why?

There can only be one- and that’s Eddie Collins. In the 1970-71 season we won the Athenian league division 2, and Eddie scored 50 goals that term to lead us to the title. To a 13 year old wet behind the ears local kid, he was a giant of a man and our hero. Eddie still visits the club two or three times a season from his Hertfordshire home, and is a true gentleman of the game, and a legend at our club.

9. Who will be in the top five at the end of the season?

Burgess Hill Town, Whitehawk, Ashford United, Sevenoaks Town, Hastings United

[b] Thanks to all who have got involved over the last month or so. The last predictions will be posted on Thursday, and then we’ll have your predicted League tables on Friday/Saturday, and your favourite grounds on Sunday. [b]
