Our Premier Division match came from Coles Park, the White Hart Lane home of Haringey Borough. They entertained Carshalton Athletic, with both sides looking to get back to winning ways after falling to away defeat on Saturday. Last season both matches between these two sides ended with four goals scored, so it’s perhaps appropriate that we had the same number once again.
The hosts started on the front foot, and were ahead after twenty three minutes, Romoluwa Akinola opening the scoring. Five minutes after the break they doubled their advantage through Roman Michael Percil, and as the game entered its closing stages it appeared that Borough were going to hold on for three points. But then the Robins were finally roused. Christie Pattisson halved the deficit with twelve minutes left, and two minutes later Paris Hamilton-Downes levelled things up.
The result sees no movement in the table, with Athletic remaining sixth- although going level on points with fifth place Hornchurch- whilst Borough stay fourteenth.
Into the North Division now, and Romford entertained Hullbridge Sports at Parkside Aveley, given that their usual Brentwood Town home has been repeatedly transformed into an outdoor aquarium.
Romford had played only three times since defeat at Dereham Town on November 23rd, and all of those matches had been away from home. This was their first chance to pick up three points since January 11th, when they lost at Cambridge City, and their first ‘home’ match since November 16th, when they lost to Coggeshall Town in manager/owner Glenn Tamplin’s first game in charge.
Sports, in thirteenth place, were in fine form, unbeaten in four matches- and it showed as Jamie Salmon and Daniel Walker fired them into a two goal half time lead. Romford, who have now used eighty-two players this season, came out in the second half and quickly pulled a goal back- Louis Theophanous breaking through the Sports rearguard- but the equaliser wouldn’t come. The hosts remain marooned at the bottom of the table on eight points- nine behind second-bottom Felixstowe and Walton United. They do have six games in hand over the Seasiders, however.
Sports are in thirteenth place- ten points off a Playoff spot, nineteen above their hosts last night.
