Bridges demolish Lewes- whilst the Rams open up a gap at the top

By Ian Townsend

What a night for Three Bridges in the FA Cup- whilst in the league, Ramsgate, Hythe and VCD Athletic triumph

Leaders Ramsgate were on the road, traveling to face Faversham Town- and the Rams held onto their unbeaten record comfortably, and extended their lead to three points by scoring three goals. Tijan Jadama got the opener ten minutes before the break, Denzelle Olopade added a second six minutes after the restart, and whilst Nathan Wood made things interesting by halving the arrears with twenty one minutes left the Rams stretched their lead just before the end, Kane Rowland with his first goal since returning to the club.

Beckenham Town lost their one hundred percent record but remained unbeaten as they couldn’t find a way past Cray Valley PM, a goalless draw the outcome. Becks remain second, whilst the Millers are seventh.

Whitehawk’s unbeaten run stretches to six matches, but the Hawks could get only a point and no goals at Lancing, a result which sees them stay third and sees the Lancers end the day in fifteenth.

Sittingbourne could have climbed into the top five with a win over Hythe Town, but the Cannons had other ideas, inflicting a first loss since the opening day on their hosts in a five goal thriller. The visitors charged into a two goal lead, Josh Stirman and Johan Caney Bryan with their goals, but the hosts hit back, Ben Gorman halving the arrears and then Donveive Jones equalising just after the restart. Caney Bryan then got into the act again, and scored what would prove to be the winner on fifty three minutes. Hythe are up to eighth.

Littlehampton Town and Chichester City couldn’t be separated. Joe Benn gave the Golds a perfect start, putting them ahead after thirteen minutes, but that was that until City equalised eight minutes after the break, Ethan Pritchard drawing them level. Four hundred and eighty seven watched on, but they saw no further goals.

VCD Athletic welcome Sevenoaks Town, both sides coming into the match on the back of one-nil victories at the weekend. Oaks have been better in cup competitions than in the league, and that trend continued at Oakwood. Khanye Makhosini gave Vickers the lead six minutes after the break, but it looked as if the visitors had earned a share of the spoils when they equalised five minutes from time through Sam Johnson. They hadn’t- Karl Dent got the winner for the hosts two minutes later, and Vickers are up to fourth.

We had a Mid-Sussex derby as Burgess Hill Town welcomed Haywards Heath Town, and the Hillians are still looking for their first win- but they did take a point. Lewis Finney gave them the lea don the half hour, but Tom Collins drew Heath level twenty three minutes from time.

Onto the Emirates FA Cup, and what a night for Three Bridges, who hammered Premier Division Lewes to earn a Third Qualifying Round tie with Hereford. Bridges came within a whisker of defeating the Rooks at the Dripping Pan on Saturday, and last night they never gave the visitors a sniff, scoring four goals without reply. Camron Lawson put them ahead eight minutes before the break, and the same player added a second eight minutes after the break. Former Rook Kieron Pamment, who scored on Saturday too, added the third on the hour, and Kevin Rivera got the fourth on sixty six- after which the hosts eased off a little and let the Rooks escape with a little dignity.

Not too much dignity, mind you.

Chatham Town welcomed Walton & Hersham in a replay after coming from two down to draw with the Swans on Saturday. This was the Swans third cup replay of the campaign, and in front of a crowd of nine hundred and eleven they battled through to the Third Qualifying Round with a three-one win. Eddie Simons put them ahead nine minutes before the break, and seven minutes after the restart Jordan Adeyemi’s sixth goal of the season put them in control, only for Reece Butler to quickly reply for the Chats. The home side fought to draw level, but right at the end the Swans made sure, Oliver Twum’s fifth of the season giving them breathing space and sealing their victory.
