Bury and Swifts hit top five...

...whilst Wroxham finally take their Trophy form into the league. We've Velocity Cup wins for Felixstowe and the Tags, too.

Heybridge Swifts, Trophy giant killers at Potters Bar Town on Saturday, put their unbeaten League record on the line once more as they welcomed second bottom side Gorleston. Swifts started the day in ninth, and ended it in fifth courtesy of a narrow victory- Kieran Jones second half goal turning out to be the only one of the match. The visitors came close, but Callum Chafer in the home goal was unbeatable.

Bury Town are a place higher than Swifts after a narrow win at Coggeshall Town. Bury lost their first league match of the season against East Thurrock United at the weekend, and quickly bounced back to give themselves a two goal lead at the break, Akenation Edwards with the opener on twenty minutes, Cemal Ramadan with his eleventh of the campaign- in twelve matches- with the second, just after the half hour mark. Fred King got one back for the Seed Growers ten minutes from time, but that was that- and they still search for their first victory of the season.

Prior to last night’s match at Hullbridge Sports, we speculated that if Wroxham had taken their FA Trophy form into the League they’d be challenging at the top end of the table rather than the bottom. It seems they were listening, as they took three points and a first league win of the season with a three-two victory. Matt Hayden got the only goal of the first half for the Yachtsmen, and six minutes after the restart Ryan Hawkins made it two. The visitors got a third in the last minute, Ryan Miles surely making the points secure- but somehow there was still time for Sports to get two back, Sonny Dutton with both of them. Wroxham remain fourth from bottom, but are only a point behind their hosts.

In the Velocity Cup, Felixstowe and Walton United continued their fine form with a two-nil win at Chertsey Town. Zak Brown got the opener after four minutes, Billy Holland made sure just after the hour, and we hope the Seasiders had a trouble free journey home as that’s rather a long midweek trip.

Maldon & Tiptree hosted Hashtag United, and the Jammers were ahead at the break, Brad Ihionvien scoring from the spot just before half time. After the restart the Tags took charge, Pedro Carvalho equalising almost immediately and Greg Halford scoring from the spot to send the Jammers out.
